FBS and UniSi to strengthen education and scientific research
A five-year Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Fondazione Biotecnopolo di Siena (FBS), represented by its President Marco Montorsi, and the University of Siena, represented by Rector Roberto di Pietra, aimed at enhancing education and scientific research. The agreement involves the sharing of existing intellectual and technical resources within their respective structures.
The goals of the agreement. During the five years of the agreement, the Fondazione Biotecnopolo di Siena and the University of Siena will collaborate through the exchange of expertise in the field of education, the development and implementation of joint research programs, and the enhancement of research outcomes. The areas of cooperation include industrial biotechnology, biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, infectious diseases, bioinformatics, and artificial intelligence - fields that reflect FBS’ commitment to technological innovation and the fight against pandemics.
"The framework agreement signed with the University of Siena is part of a fundamental action aimed at further strengthening the relationship between the Foundation and universities, businesses, and institutions in our region," said Marco Montorsi, President of the Fondazione Biotecnopolo di Siena. "It is important to recognize that research and education play an essential role in the growth of the entire country, especially in fields with a high concentration of scientific and specialized expertise, such as life sciences. The Innovative Doctorate and the research projects linked to the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) already demonstrate the shared interests with the University of Siena, which are now being formalized within a broader framework, with the goal of fostering growth and attracting the best talents."
Support for education. The agreement also provides for close collaboration in the university's academic programs, enabling both curricular and extracurricular educational activities. Doctoral programs and advanced training courses will also be included in the Protocol, to provide specialized skills and professional updates to graduates. In a bid to strengthen the connection between academic education and the labor market, the agreement will facilitate the activation of internships and traineeships, both curricular and educational, to assist students in finding an employment.
The implementation of the Memorandum and the coordination of related activities will be possible also thanks to a Joint Scientific Committee composed of two representatives from each party.
